I’ve never really stashed. I’ve bought yarn as and when I’ve been ready to start a new project, and I’ve generally started knitting it up fairly quickly. Just lately, though, my stash is getting bigger.
First of all, Susan pointed out that Cucumberpatch had Jaeger Extra Fine Merino on sale. I don’t usually impulse-buy just because it’s a sale, but I’d just finished knitting Ivy in Matchmaker, so I couldn’t resist stashing some more Jaeger before it disappeared for good.
It’s DK weight, in the colourway Peacock. I don’t have a definite project in mind for this, but I’m currently considering the Kimono Styled Sweater.
Then there was Woolfest, which I’ve already blogged about.
Finally, my friend G lives in the states and owed me a small favour. After much umm-ing and aah-ing, I eventually chose a selection of Knitpicks yarns for him to send to me, and they arrived yesterday.
Swish DK – from left to right we have Eggplant, Hollyberry, Petal, Skyborne, Asparagus and (across the bottom) Dusk. These are going to be a Five Fruits baby jumper for J’s baby, Emily.
Palette in Wood, Merlot Heather and Blue. The Wood and Blue are probably going to be a pair of Red Herring socks, as I’ve been wanting to try Fair Isle for a while (I originally learnt to knit English style, and I now knit Continental, so in theory I could rock at colourwork). The Merlot Heather is just crying out to be paired up with a dark burgundy colour for some unspecified project.
Swish Superwash (worsted weight) in Marine Heather. It’s a seriously gorgeous colour and it’s going to be a Wicked sweater, with no pocket and 3/4 length sleeves. According to the reviews of this yarn on Ravelry it shrinks, so I’ll be chucking my swatch in the washing machine before I cast on for the sweater. However I suspect that American top-loading washing machines may be a little more violent than smaller, British front-loading ones (plus a friend tells me American laundry detergent generally contains bleach) so I’m hoping it will wash ok on a wool cycle.
Phew, that’s all my knitting news up-to-date now, at least! Hmm, I’ve noticed that I seem to be buying a lot of blue/teal coloured yarn lately! I do have a hoodie planned in some shade of red, and a brown Forecast hovering on the horizon somewhere, but I’ve got a lot of knitting to do before I get that far…
